چکیده

Considering the density-density correlation function of a concentrated polymer solution with multicomponent solvent we find a phase transition due to the heterogeneity of excluded volume constant. This new phase transition implies a strong enhancement of the scattered light intensity in the critical region, which can explain a recent experiment showing strong light scattering from a ternary polymer system consisting of polyethylene oxide (PEO) dissolved in nitroethane and 3methyl-pentane.

Phase Behavior of Polystyrene-block-poly(2-vinylpyridine) Copolymers in a Selective Ionic Liquid Solvent

The phase behavior of poly(styrene-block-2-vinylpyridine) copolymer solutions in an imidazolium bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonamide ([Im][TFSI]) ionic liquid has been studied using small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and optical transmission characterization. Through scaling analysis of SAXS data, we demonstrate that the [Im][TFSI] ionic liquid behaves as a selective solvent toward one of the bloc...

Modeling the Thermodynamic Properties of Solutions Containing Polymer and Electrolyte with New Local Composition Model

A new theory model based on the local composition concept (TNRF-modified NRTL (TNRF-mNRTL) model) was developed to express the short-range contribution of the excess Gibbs energy for the solutions containing polymer and electrolyte. An equation represented the activity coefficient of solvent was derived from the proposed excess Gibbs energy equation. The short-range contribution of interaction ...

Phase Separation in Water-Ethanol Polymer Solutions Studied by NMR Methods

We applied H and C NMR spectroscopy to investigate a phase transition and a cononsolvency effect of uncharged poly(N-isopropylmethacrylamide) (PIPMAm) and negatively charged PIPMAm copolymers in water/ethanol (D2O/EtOH) mixtures. For this purpose several PIPMAm solutions with various volume mixture compositions of D2O/EtOH (100/0 5/95 vol.-%) were prepared; sodium methacrylate was used as an io...

Collapse of a polymer chain in poor solvents

2014 The behavior of a single, flexible polymer chain near the Flory temperature 0398 is analysed in analogy with a magnetic phase transition. The transition to a collapsed state is related to a tricritical point for the magnetic problem. A solute polymer chain expands in a good solvent, and collapses in a poor solvent [1]. By suitable changes in temperature, or in solvent composition, it is po...
